1. Acknowledge the Breakup
Whether the breakup was a complete surprise or a long time coming, you cant move forward until you admit where the relationship is. Ignoring the truth or trying to change it will only make matters worse.
2. Define your intentions
Youve resigned yourself to the fact that the split up has happened, and now you need to decide what you really want to happen. Deciding what you really want will let you know the next steps to take. Do you want to move on with your life, or are you insistent on getting back together?
3. Express Your Feelings in a Healthy Way
You need to be able to express your feelings in a healthy way no matter what you are feeling. Keep from isolating yourself and giving way to irrational thinking. How to deal with a breakup in a healthy way is by writing down your thoughts and feelings or talking with a friend. It will help you sort through your emotions and do you good.
4. Avoid Alcohol or Drugs
Going out drinking or using drugs will only cause problems. They will make emotions more intense and make your self-control practically non existent. Doing things that you will be embarrassed about is not how to deal with a breakup.
5. Acknowledge that healing is a process
Change is never easy. It will take time to learn how to deal with a breakup and accept what has happened. Avoid putting pressure on yourself to feel a certain way and give yourself permission to go through the process over time.
No one just automatically knows how to deal with a breakup. Without some direction we all make mistakes. Hopefully by using these tips you will start to move toward the relationship and the future your heart really desires.
