Is rice healthy for you? Many people think that starchy foods like breads, rice and pasta are fattening but in reality they are not. If you add fats like margarine, oil, mayonnaise, cheese sauce or gravy to them, you will be adding many extra calories. You will also find that wholly unpolished rice is going to be more expensive than the mill-husked rice. You can clearly see the difference between paddy rice and wild rice when you cook them.

Brown rice is the entire grain with only the inedible outer husk removed. The nutritious, high-fiber bran coating gives it a light tan color, nutlike flavor and chewy texture. Fiber helps out by keeping blood sugar levels under control, so brown rice is an excellent grain choice for people with diabetes.

Besides reducing constipation and normalizing bowel function, the fiber found in brown rice can protect you from colon cancer since fiber binds to cancer-causing chemicals, keeping them away from the cells lining the colon. Cooking brown rice is really easy and usually take about 45 minutes but with quick-fix brown rice, it only takes 10 minutes to prepare brown rice.
