Beta Fish Care
I'm going away for the weekend. Will my betta be all right?
Yes! Your betta will not starve if you go away for the weekend or you miss a feeding. Bettas can go for several days with-out eating. It is always recommended that you feed your betta before you go away and as soon as you return home. This is also true for those people who have their betta vase in an office.
Can beta fish have light in their aquarium? and do they like it?
Yes, you can have a light with a beta. It would be nice if there are some decorations that give shade (a hollow rock, a plant with broad leaves) so the beta can get away from the light once in a while. You can buy commercial baby fry food, or finely grind the regular flake food for the babies.
What can betta fish create?
Betta fish create nests made of floating masses of bubbles. They are blown with saliva. These bubble nests are a place for fertilized eggs to hatch in. The nest is guarded by the male until the small Betta fishes hatch. The nests are made from air bubbles which when coated with saliva increase its strength. When the male Betta makes the nest you can hear a louder noise than when it breathes normally.
How often do I feed my Betta fish?
Betta fish grow to about 6 cm, and have a life-span, on average, of about four years. Well maintained aquarium Bettas have been known to live longer than six years.
