Go Back to... Home » Fitness » Weight-loss »

French women know how to stay slim, lose weight, fat loss and weight loss is not part of their vocabulary; they have just stayed with their lifestyle that's been working for centuries, and of course, common sense.

This diet allows you to eat a large selection of unprocessed meats, grains, dairy products, breads, vegetables and fruits. The key is all about portions.

It is important to change your food choices for every meal because they all have different vitamins and minerals for a well rounded diet.

Your main source of protein for each meal should not be larger than a one third of a pound and should be eaten with a nice salad and vegetable.

If you have ever watched diners at an outside French Cafe, then you have noticed that most of the locals will order one desert for the whole table then share it. This is also a part of the French diet. You can have your cheese cake and eat it, too, but only a small sliver of it. Obviously, if you eat a lot of these foods, it is not going to assist you in your fat loss and weight loss diet. The secret is to keep your portions as small as possible.

What would we do if we didn't have croissants? French breads are great, but croissants in France are only about 1 ounce, so having that with your meal would be in order.

There is always cheese in a French diet, real cheese, not processed cheese, that is definitely out of the question. The key is small portions because they will help to curb cravings as you will feel full.

Red wine has also always been part of French tradition, and it's healthy for you because it's full of antioxidants and fights free radicals in your body. Once again, a small portion, 1 to 2 glasses a day, not a bottle.

French women like big portions of unprocessed, fresh fruit and vegetables and it shows, because they are naturally nutritious and low in calories.

Most US citizens eat much larger portions than French women do as French women only eat a fraction of the normal intake. This is confirmed by the huge portions that are served at restaurants, so it's just natural that US citizens are in the habit of consuming more food.

Can you remember when last you savored a meal? French women are in the habit of eating slowly and enjoying the food; they do not sit in front of the TV and wolf down the food.

French women are used to drinking more water during the day, it's not only good for you but helps to keep your metabolic rate in high gear which is great for burning calories.

French women can easily forgive themselves if they have eaten too much. There will come a time when you just don't have the willpower and you overindulge. All you do is cut back a little on your next meal - if we continue copying them it will help us with our fat loss efforts.
