Thoughts On Buying A Carl Lewis Treadmill

Key benefits

Treadmills are easy to use. All you have to do is start the machine and begin walking, jogging or running. Treadmills are a great way to work your heart and lungs and burn calories. They also provide you with the opportunity to vary your workout and receive feedback on your performance such as distance travelled, time elapsed and calories burned. Buying a treadmill for home use allows you to get a good workout in the privacy of your own home at whatever time of the day suits you and you can even catch up on your favourite television programmes at the same time.

Types of treadmill

There are basically two types of treadmill: manual and motorised. Manual machines comprise a belt and rollers and work under your own power as you walk or run on the belt whereas, motorised machines, as the name suggests, have a motor to drive the belt

Features

Manual treadmills can be folded up so that you can store them away when not in use. Also, manual machines are less complicated mechanically so there are fewer parts that could break. Motorised treadmills, on the other hand, tend to be heavier, more expensive and not always foldable. However, motorised treadmills do provide a superior workout and have more features such as the ability to alter the incline and pre-set programmes to allow you to mimic interval training or running over hills. Some more sophisticated models have sensors on the grips which measure your heart rate so that you can check that your are exercising within the most effective training zone of 70-80% of your maximum heart rate.

Things to look for

When buying a treadmill you should look out for decks with cushioning to reduce the impact on your joints and prevent injury. Also make sure that the deck is long enough and wide enough for you, for example, taller people will need a longer deck to take into account their longer natural stride length and heavier people will benefit from a wider deck. Think about what level of exercise you are planning, for example, if you plan to walk slowly, then a manual model with less features will probably be sufficient for you but if you are a serious athlete and plan to use the treadmill for training then you may require a more sophisticated motorised model with pre-set programmes and a heart monitor. If you have only a small space at home for your treadmill then look out for a model that folds or has wheels so you can store it away or move it around. Also, check the dimensions of the model you buy so that it will fit into your home and not take over the entire room. It is important to check that the model you buy has a safety cut-off feature, particularly if you opt for a motorised model and also check that a warranty is provided with the motorised models.

Carl Lewis treadmills are designed to encourage walking, jogging and running as a means of introducing exercise to your life at any level from the beginner to the serious athlete. Conclusion

When buying a treadmill for home use it is important that you know what features are available and what your exercise plans are so that you buy the correct model for you. Always make sure that you use your treadmill sensibly and safely and remember to consult your GP or other appropriate health professional before starting any exercise programme.
