Background Checks and Volunteers

Background checks are now raising the question of the integrity of volunteers in society. The question raised is: Are volunteers such a danger and threat to the thousands that teach classes that they are going to need validation such as a background check? In the state of New Jersey the answer is yes. From the instructors at Coast Guard Auxiliaries and United States Power Squadron all are being considered for criminal background checks. From the most prestigious assembly to the lowest all are being considered for this priority in the method of consideration for volunteer work.

This means that background checks must be taken seriously and would require them despite the volunteer’s statement. A New Jersey bill is now pending in legislature that would not only require background checks, however, a New Jersey boater must pass an exam or become part of a curriculum for class by the year 2008. This new requirement would not only be applicable to the regular boaters of the New Jersey waters, yet, it would be applicable to the boaters just passing through New Jersey waters. This is not surprising being that most state mandatory education laws will not allow out of state boaters.

Assembly bill No. 2624, the bill calling for further education, classes and criminal background checks has inclined New Jersey residents to start getting in touch with people in charge to give opinions on the subject.
